Our Purpose

Colonial Heights Church of Christ is a purpose-driven church which believes that God has specific purposes and life-missions not only for individuals, but for churches as well. Our statement of purpose, which is shown on the CHCC Family logo at the top of this page, is:

This purpose statement reflects two aspects of our philosophy of kingdom living that are very important to us. We are dedicated to the building of God's family, which we believe consists of all Christians everywhere. And our motivation for doing this is the love and grace we have each experienced in Jesus Christ, coupled with our understanding of His purposes for His Church.

Our family-building is accomplished using a realistic strategy that we feel encompasses all that God has called us to do, as well as provides practical guidance on how to do it. Our strategy is simple:

This strategy provides us with three specific areas of focus that assist us in implementing and evaluating programs and areas of ministry provided by the church. Each of our ministries must make a clear contribution to the encouraging, equipping, or expanding of God's family to remain a valid and viable ministry in our church. By using our purpose statement and strategy as tools for evaluation, we can continually work to ensure that our programs and ministries match up with what we believe God has called us to do as a church family.

Our strategy also gives us a framework for goal-setting, allowing us to envision and plan ways to improve our effectiveness in each of our three areas of strategy. We set specific, measurable goals in each strategy area to challenge ourselves to reach the next level in all aspects of our church life.

We realize that our effectiveness is not based in our own strength, but in the strength and power of God as demonstrated in the risen Lord Jesus Christ. And it is our chief desire to bring honor and glory to Him and not ourselves through our efforts to build up God's family here at CHCC.
